I am thoroughly impressed by J.L. Beck. I haven’t come across many authors that have tackled a role reversal on sexual abuse, especially like this. I can usually predict how the story will end, but a well-written plot that delivers a jaw-dropping twist deserves a round of applause. This gave me the perfect mix of emotions. Even snagged some tears at a few points. I am very pleased to have discovered a new author, and look forward to reading more.

This book actually has high school students who act their age! The plot breaks and warms your heart at the same time. It deals with serious, sensitive matters in a realistic way. But please heed trigger warnings.
I love this author. What an excellent writer. Abuse is so prevalent in this world. This story embarks on a journey to uncover truth. The characters pull at your heart. Read this book.
First of all: Readers who are sensitive to the triggers of abuse/rape, suicidal thoughts and blackmail should not read this book. The book is written in Morgan's POV. This is important because the action and the subsequent solution to the problem derive from it. The essence of the matter is that we sometimes perceive something, but the assumption alone is not enough to change the problem. Heyes literally has his back against the wall here, but his silence leads him to take out his self-hatred on others. Morgan in particular feels this. He transforms from a victim to a perpetrator. “Worse than Enemies” reflects this well as a title. Being helpless in a seemingly hopeless situation is a very ugly feeling and ultimately leads not only to self-destruction, but also to the destruction of others. This book is emotionally intense, but ultimately also very valuable in its core message.
